High
Pressure Laminates
The most common worktop materials supplied by APMG due to their good balance
of performance, price and range of attractive finishes. We mainly use
Trespa Athlon and Trespa
TopLab. Athlon is ideal for use in schools with good impact, scratch
and heat resistance. Toplab has improved chemical and stain resistance
and is often chosen by professional laboratories, but it is more expensive
than Athlon.
Solid
Plastic
Includes cast materials such as Epoxy, Polyester and Acrylic resins. Cast
Epoxy has an extremely high resistance to chemicals and is recommended
for fume cupboard worktops. It is relatively expensive and is only available
in a limited colour choice.
Polyester and Acrylic resins are not as chemically resistant as Epoxy
but are available in a larger range of colours and can be manufactured
to produce invisible joints.
Laminate
Boards
Comprising a decorative laminate finish surrounding a core material -
usually MDF. Laminate boards are available in a wide choice of colours
and finishes. Suitable for use in Offices and IT rooms.
Stainless
Steel
Sometimes specified for the worktop inside a fume cupboard due to its
chemical resistance and ease
of cleaning.
Hardwoods
Iroko and similar hardwoods have been the traditional choice for many
years. Good quality Iroko is in short supply and has become expensive
relative to other materials. They do have an advantage in that they can
easily be refurbished by removing the top few mm of wood. APMG offer Texwood
Iroko which is made up of smaller strips of Iroko and is stronger than
traditional planks of Iroko. It is also lower cost and more environmentally
friendly as less wood is wasted during manufacture.
